Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Making the trajectory of the puck unpredictable and a threat to the plethora of maskless netminders that roamed creases throughout the mid-1960s, Bobby Hull used heavily curved sticks referred to as “Banana Curves” during the era, with current NHL Rule 10.1 stating a curve no greater than three-quarters-of-an-inch can be used. This signed “Banana Curve” stick was used by the superstar during the mid-to-late-1960s. A Northland Custom Pro Glass Fused model, "B Hull" is stamped with “9” handwritten to the upper shaft, with additional stamps from team supplier Gonzo’s over each side. The original black tape is in place over the blade and shaved handle/knob, with moderate use exhibited on the desirable lumber, with marks to the lower shaft and wear to the taped section of blade. There is also a very minor crack at the toe, with an additional crack to the shaft that has been repaired with glue (the stick remains completely solid). Hull has signed the upper shaft in ballpoint, adding "To Joel Darling 1980". The recipients name is also handwritten to the lower shaft in black marker.
