Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
The Montreal Canadiens kicked off their inaugural 1909-10 season in the brand new NHA wearing a blue affair with a simple white "C", and in honor of that historic season, the 2009-10 Montreal Canadiens suited up on Nov. 21, 2009 wearing an identical replica blue ensemble while dualling with the Detroit Red Wings at the Bell Centre. Presented here is the helmet worn during the game by Canadiens defenseman, Hal Gill. A Bauer made example with white “C” decals found over each side, stickers displaying Gill’s number “75” and the NHL shield are found on the reverse. With its strapping and harness intact and all padding present, the helmet exhibits marks and abrasions throughout. Additionally included with the lot is a pair of game socks from the 1909-10 game that are made by Reebok and tagged a size “L” while showing a handful of marks to the lower portion of each. A navy pant shell from the contest is also included, made by Reebok and is tagged a size “M”, the covers showing marks and abrasions while sporting an NHL shield patch on the back of the right leg.
ADDENDUM: Further researches shows that Gill was not in the lineup for the November 21, 2009 game in which the Canadiens wore their 1909-10 based uniforms as he was dealing with a foot injury that would sideline the blue liner for 14 games. The helmet, while showing wear (likely from practice leading up to the contest) should be regarded as game-issued
