Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
From the season that witnessed the Punch Line finish first, second and third in scoring, with Maurice Richard the first player in history to score 50 goals in 50 games, the 1945 NHL season featured the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs competing for Lord Stanley’s trophy, with the mighty maple leaf slipping past the winged-wheel in seven games. Babe Pratt would score the Cup winner in Game 7, with Frank McCool allowing just a single Red Wings goal. We have a 1945 Stanley Cup Finals program produced for one of the games at the Detroit Olympia, on either April 6th (Game 1), April 8th (Game 2), April 19th (Game 5) or April 22nd (Game 7). Featuring a team photo of the 1944-45 Red Wings on the cover along with the original 15 cent cover price, the 31-page program sports the original line-up (detached) and rosters, and survives in gorgeous condition. It should be noted that the wartime relic has paper covers instantly susceptible to damage from handling, and thankfully, this specimen exhibits just the lightest wear.
