Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022

A rarity that is almost more myth than fact is this 1972 Toronto Maple Leafs blue prototype game puck made by Viceroy. Looking to capitalize on the trend started by the rival WHA, who used blue pucks made by Biltrite, Viceroy produced their own blue prototype game puck for the Maple Leafs. The puck apparently saw action in a practice or two but was quickly rejected by the players and the league. Issued on a V2 slug with a tiny “Canada” on the side, the puck features rubberized crests of the Leafs and NHL on the obverse and reverse that remains fairly clean. Clear plastic film covers both crests with air bubbles found under each side. The puck displays beautifully with no cuts, grooves or gouges with just light staining and handling wear found on the side.
