Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers defended their Stanley Cup title in the spring of 1985 with a five-game series win over Philadelphia in the final. This nicely preserved 1984-85 Oilers personal Stanley Cup trophy was presented by the NHL to equipment manager Barrie Stafford, who enjoyed a long career with Edmonton and was part of each of the team’s five Cup wins in seven years from 1984-90. Gretzky, who won the Conn Smythe, heads up as captain the three columns of player names engraved on the barrel that include fellow HOFers Messier, Coffey, Fuhr, Kurri and Anderson. The lip of the bowl is slightly misshaped, while the top of the trophy was repaired at the base of the bowl, where there is a very small dent. The body also shows surface wear, small blemishes and a number of scuffs/scratches, along with a small dent near the base. This item was originally part of the Barrie Stafford’s collection sold by Classic Auctions in 2016 and will come with Barrie Stafford’s signed LOA, whose name is engraved below the players.
