Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Forever immortalized as the greatest scorer the National Hockey League as well as the game of hockey itself, October 15th, 1989 would see The Great One break his boyhood idol’s, Gordie Howe, scoring record to become the highest scoring player in NHL history. Captured in this framed display is a breakdown of Wayne’s record setting night and the lead up to get there. Fully contained in a visually appealing black frame, that shows a ding to the top left corner, that measures out to 22” x 18”, the two 7 ½” x 9 ½” images on the inside have been double matted under a deep grey. The image on the left shows Gretzky in his Los Angeles Kings uniform while the one on the left is a mock newspaper article about Wayne’s career and the record-breaking tally (of note, the article is incorrectly dated October 5th when the record was broken on October 15th). To add to the appeal of the display, Wayne has signed the mock article with a crisp blue ink signature that appears without issue. A WGA hologram is affixed alongside the autograph with a matching COA accompanying it.
While all of our frames are thoroughly and safely packaged for shipping, due to the size and/or weight, and dependent upon the shipping company, we should mention that damage may occur in transit. Please note that as such, we are not responsible for damage to frames that occur during shipping.
