This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Part of the Hockey Hall of Fame induction class of 1961 that included legendary players such as Percy LeSueur, Bruce Stuart and Rocket Richard, George Hainsworth was enshrined posthumously – perishing in an automobile accident in 1950. This serving tray was presented to the star’s widow upon his induction in 1961. Rectangular-shaped at approx 13 ½” x 23” including the handles, the surface features attractive scroll and floral work, with engraving across the top and bottom borders that states “In tribute to George Hainsworth – Honouring his election to the Hockey Hall of Fame – Kitchener-Waterloo Rotary Club Benefit Hockey Game – Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Oct 4th 1961”. The underside is stamped “Old English Reproduction E.P. on Copper” with a hallmark. The tray exhibits light surface wear/tarnishing throughout, with a slight bend to the upper left corner. Two period photos are included, with one showing Mrs Hainsworth receiving the tray along with Milt Schmidt, while a second photo shows Woody Dumart, Hainsworth, Schmidt and Bobby Bauer posed in “Carling Kuntz” jerseys. Both photos exhibit wear.
