Located one-hour north of Toronto, the town of Orangeville featured Orangeville High School which was built in 1884 and burned down in 1948. Sporting a rugby football club (many of the early Canadian football teams used the term “rugby” as the game evolved in the country from the sport), the high school served as “Champions Orangeville District” in 1907, and we offer an original cabinet photo of the turn-of-the-century team that hails from the personal collection of noted photography historian Mark Rucker. At 10” x 13”, the image pictures the full squad including detailed early melon football and small trophy, with a few players in desirable union suit uniforms. Affixed to a 16” x 20” mount with the players listed in gilt, there is light wear to both the image and mount, with just a quality frame needed for prominent display in any antique football collection.
