Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022

A wonderful image of the young Dallas, Texas native who would go on to earn the nickname of "Mr. Cub" is featured on Ernie Banks' rookie card, with card #94 the second most important/valuable RC (or other card) behind that of Hank Aaron in Topps' 1954 set, one that features a total of 69 official RCs. This example had remarkably survived in pretty much the same condition as when it was issued, before being encapsulated a number of years ago by PSA. The informative reverse reveals that Ernie had been the top ranking player in the Negro National League, arriving in Chicago from the Kansas City Monarchs in September of 1953. A baseball, track, basketball and football star in high school, Banks smacked 512 career home runs en route to Cooperstown, was a back-to-back National League MVP ('58, '59), and was the first Cub to have his uniform number (14) retired. A beloved Chicago sports legend awaits your encapsulated '54 Topps/RC stash. Surface scratches and light scuffs to the PSA holder are to note, along with the fact that just 30 Banks RCs have had a number higher than "8" appear on the PSA label after examination. Check the PSA pop numbers and you'll be impressed.
