Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
The first New York Yankee to be selected as team captain since Lou Gehrig, Thurman Munson is best remembered for his fielding exploits as a three-time consecutive Gold Glove Award winner who led the Bombers to a trio of Fall Classic appearances. Munson is also the only player in baseball history to be named a College Baseball All-American, and then win a Rookie of the Year Award, MVP Award, Gold Glove Award, and World Series championship all during his short 11-season career in MLB. Passing away in an airplane accident at age 32 in the summer of 1979, we offer an index card signed by the beloved Yankee. The standard 3" x 5" and peach in colour, Munson has placed a large blue fiber-tip marker signature across the middle, with "Amer league rookie of year 1970" handwritten in pencil along the base (not in Munson's hand). With the signature impossible to improve upon, there is some toning to the index card along with a small blemish and a tiny piece of clear tape. A JSA LOA will accompany.
