After a two-year hiatus, Topps returned to the hockey card scene during the 1957-58 season, once again featuring players from the four United States-based teams. The colorful and enticing encapsulated array offered here includes a total of 60 cards that graded either EX-MT 6 (31 cards) or NM 7 (29) when assessed by PSA, with Elmer Vasko’s (#27) rookie card leading condition-wise, meriting a mark of NM+ 7.5. Johnny Bucyk’s important RC headlines the group of NM 7s, with other notable rookies being 14-Simmons, 26-Litzenberger and 64-Fontinato, while the Hall of Fame roster at NM 7 features 15-Stanley, 18-Boivin, 21-Lindsay, 38-Arbour, 51-Howell, 53-Worsley and 65-Gadsby. Following a couple of EX-MT+ 6.5s (49-Dineen, 59-Cahan) and at EX-MT 6 are icons Howe and Sawchuk, rookie cards of fellow HOFers Pilote and Ullman and the following noteworthy entries: 1-Chevrefils, 7-Horvath RC, 34-Delveacchio, 43-Pronovost and 60-Bathgate. The key Glenn Hall RC is in a holder labeled “VG-EX 4” while completing at EX 5 are 4-Flaman and 48-Kelly. Two raw cards of 30-Skov (EX+, P) are throw-ins. The PSA holders have, in general, been well cared for with however some intermittent obvious/unsightly scratches observed. Also notable are the 11 with a price sticker affixed to the upper back, with remnants of the same on a few of the fronts. Multiple options are to contemplate with this charming years-in-the-making project.
