The NHL leader in wins as a goalie for three straight seasons from 1966-67 to 1968-69, sharing the Vezina Trophy with teammate Gilles Villemure in 1970-71, Giacomin put the Rangers on his back and led the Blueshirts to an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals in 1972. Hailing from the best years of his career, we offer this New York Rangers jersey worn by Eddie Giacomin during the late-1960s/early-1970s that has also been signed by the 1987 HOF inductee. A durene knit tie neck jersey with six-eyelets at the neck, Gerry Cosby and size “48” tagging is affixed to the interior of the left hip. The front is decorated with “Rangers” going diagonally down the chest in drop shadow dual layer tackle twill letters that have been individually glued on and then sewn down. Giacomin’s number “1” is found over the sleeves and reverse in matching style with “Giacomin” spelt out in individual matching letters across the top of the back. The sleeve and reverse numbers and letters have been affixed to the jersey the same as the front “Rangers”, glued on and then sewn down, with the adhesive being visible on the inside. The jersey shows a few puck marks over the front and no fewer than six team repairs throughout. Staining is found on the interior of the jersey near the underarms, most likely from the chest protector rubbing on the jersey and is also seen a bit on the outside. Light staining is also seen on the lower right sleeve, likely from rubbing against the blocker. Additionally, Giacomin has signed the back of the piece with a bold blue marker ink signature having added his number alongside it with an inscription reading “Good Luck – H.O.F 87’” found underneath. Everything displays well with no issues. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
