Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Pictured early in his Hall of Fame career on a card issued in his second big league season is Walter "Turk" Broda, considered by hockey observers as one of if not the best money goalie in the history of hockey. In what is considered one of Conn Smythe's best moves, Broda was purchased from the Detroit organization and went on to backstop the Maple Leafs to five Stanley Cup triumphs. Prone to condition issues from being the first numbered card in O-Pee-Chee's 1937-38 issue is the Broda card, with this example of card #133 garnering a mark of EX 5 at PSA. It's a Pop 8 with just six similar cards ever grading higher, out of the 45 total submissions. Worthy of an important Maple Leafs/goalie/pre-war shrine is this Turk, with a few light vertical scratches to the front of the PSA holder to be aware of.
