Played in front of over 100,000 spectators in Ann Arbor, the 2014 Winter Classic witnessed an Original Six matchup as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in a shootout, with Phaneuf assisting on both of Toronto’s goals in the game. Presented here, we have a Leafs jersey worn during the first period of play by then captain, Dion Phaneuf. A “56” size label sits along the collar beneath screened-on “NHL Winter Classic”, with NHL and Reebok crests over the front and back necklines respectively. Featuring a felt Leafs team crest with affixed letters, the vintage-style tie-neck has been accented with matching felt sleeve and verso numbers, with the Winter Classic patch over the right shoulder and the captain’s “C” on the left breast. Worn for just a single period of play, game wear present on the jersey is extremely light with no major wear to mention and just the occasional light mark being present on the piece. It should be mentioned that there is some staining near the collar of the piece. The MeiGray patch residing over the inside hem is numbered “K06538” and according to the their population report, the jersey is a "Blue - Winter Classic 1/1/14 at Michigan Stadium (The Big House) – NHL MGG Set Worn Period 1 - 1/1/14 At Michigan Stadium (The Big House)" example. A letter of authenticity from MeiGray will accompany.
