Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Twenty years, four Stanley Cups, three Canada Cups, five 20-goal seasons and more games played than any other defenceman when he retired are some of the reasons Larry Murphy wound up in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Hailing from his time in Toronto is this jersey worn during the 1996-97 season. Made by CCM and featuring a single size “56” fly tag on the interior collar, the front of this jersey features the iconic team crest of the Leafs as well as the Maple Leaf Gardens 65th Anniversary patch sewn on the right breast. The sleeves and reverse of the jersey feature Murphy’s number “55” in single layer white twill numbers while “Murphy” is spelt out across the back in similar fashion with matching stylized team crests over each shoulder. Game wear is found mostly on the sleeves with multiple board burns and stick marks with the inside exhibiting pilling at the elbows. It should be noted that there is staining to the team crest, lower front of the jersey, sleeves and back numbers which appear to have been caused by a liquid (like a sports drink). The interior of the jersey features team tagging designating it as a “1996-1997 Game Worn 4 of 4” example. An LOA from the Maple Leafs will accompany it along with a COR from MeiGray.
