Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
On November 22, 2003 the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens made NHL history by playing the league's first ever modern era outdoor game in front of 57,000 plus freezing fans in Commonwealth Stadium and millions more watching around the world on television. From that game we have the jersey worn by Montreal’s Niklas Sundstrom during the warmup and first two periods of play. Made by CCM, the vintage inspired tie-neck jersey has a single size “56” flag tag affixed to the collar with the logos for CCM and the NHL are embroidered over the reverse hem, with the famous Canadiens crest decorating the front along with an NHL Vintage Series patch over the right breast. The sleeves and verso are stylized with Sundstrom’s “37” in white tackle twill. Visible game-wear is light with black marks on both sleeves and two board burns present on the left one. Black marks are also seen on the lower front and the reverse. A MeiGray patch numbered “B10503” is sewn to the interior hem with the inventory number also written on the backside of the fight strap in blue marker. According to the population report, the jersey is a “Red Heritage Classic - NHL-MGG Set Worn in WarmUps, 1st and 2nd Periods” specimen.
