Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
The most desirable NHL pucks in the hobby, this early-1960s Art Ross game puck with rubberized crest and Red Wings logo has been signed by Mr. Hockey Gordie Howe, and it is attributed to his 30th goal of the 1961-62 NHL season - which took place on March 6th vs the New York Rangers. Offered previously by another auction house as Howe's 300th regular season career goal which took place in 1955-56, this style of puck was not used until 1958, with particulars to the logo on this specific puck dating it to approx 1962-64. Howe has signed above the Red Wings logo, with what appears to be "30th Goal" written beneath. The puck shows wear from use with a few small edge chips and a bit of darkening to the logos. Regarding provenance, according to our consignor, the puck was donated by the Howes for a celebrity auction to raise funds for the newly constructed Brother Rice High School in Birmingham, and was won by his mother. It has been in their family ever since. Milestone goal pucks are highly sought, especially those used by legendary stars such as Gordie Howe.
