A Jacques Plante rookie card recently returning from PSA headquarters where it garnered an EX-MT 6 assessment anchors this alluring ensemble of 1955-56 Parkhurst cards, with hardly a crease detected in the raw segment and some high grade slabbed specimens upping the appeal. Joining Plante on the trip was a similar Jean Beliveau card (EX-MT 6) while in older PSA holders are six NM 7s; #s 24-Primeau, 32-Cotton, 46-Bouchard, 55-Lalonde, 58-Joliat and 68-Selke, with an (OC) qualifier given to 9-Parker MacDonald RC (NM 7). The popular 78-The Montreal Forum card is an EX-MT 6, as are 29-Kennedy and 66-Reay, while at EX 5 are 45-Harvey and 79-Maple Leaf Gardens. Two cards graded by SGC complete the encapsulated portion; 1-Lumley has “80 EX/NM” on its label, with 61-Leduc making it to 86 NM+. Meanwhile, toning like that exhibited across the top of the Plante RC, also shows up down the right side/edge of some 20 raw cards, including 3-Horton (VG-EX+) and 43-Geoffrion (EX), but only minimal wear to the red sections throughout the stack is observed, making for a group that averages EX. EX, EX+ and EX-MT cards are joined by a small percentage of sub-EX entries; 37-Rocket Richard (VG+ with a tiny corner crease) and 63-Durnan RC (VG+) are amid them. Attractive crease-free cards, a fabulous lineup of past and then-present Canadiens and Maple Leafs, action cards and no low grade fillers – this pieced-together effort is deserving of ample consideration – ’55-56 Parkies, with good reason, will forever be popular. *For those interested in such things, there are three cards with orangish backs (as opposed to standard gray backs); 11-Morrison, 15-Nesterenko and 53-Talbot RC.
