Finishing second in the Canadian Division, with goaltender Earl Robertson earning 19 wins, the New York Americans advanced to the Stanley Cup playoffs in 1937-38. After defeating the crosstown-rival Blueshirts in three games, the Americans were beaten by the Chicago Black Hawks. Originally offered in 2004, this 1937-38 Americans postcard has been signed by Robertson, and is the only example of this specific image that we have ever handled. At the standard 3 ½” x 5 ½”, the full team is pictured in the traditional on-ice pose, including coach and HOFer Red Dutton. Robertson has signed beneath the image in blue ink, adding a personalization, with the signature bold, with the indentation visible to the postcard when held at an angle. There is a single surface line along with light chipping to the right border. The postal reverse has been filled-out, with each player’s name handwritten. Robertson passed away in 1979 at age 68. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
