Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

One of the premier relief pitchers of all time thanks to his split-fingered fastball, Bruce Sutter appears here on his 1977 Topps rookie card, the likes of which were found in packs the season that the young righthander saved 31 games for the Cubs while posting a minuscule ERA of 1.34. Cubs manager Herman Franks called Sutter the greatest relief pitcher he had seen in his 45 years in baseball and Cardinals manager Whitey Herzog is quoted as saying "he had the best makeup of any closer I've ever seen." Bruce's Hall of Fame credentials included an even 300 career saves, with this example's attributes landing it MINT 9 recognition at PSA. Just 34 similar Sutter cards out of the 2200+ submitted to the firm over the years have ever scored higher. A beauty to score, it'll arrive in a PSA holder free of unsightly scratches.
