A four-time All-Star that patrolled Montreal's blueline for over a dozen seasons as a member of the "Big Three" defensive core and a member of the famed Canadian team that represented the country in the 1972 Summit Series, Guy Lapointe earned six Stanley Cup championships with the Habs, including in 1976-77 and 1977-78, the seasons this extremely desirable Canadiens jersey was worn. First donned by Lapointe during the 1977 Stanley Cup playoffs (the Canadiens 1976-77 regular season jerseys had a white collar and the numbers on the sleeves were inside the blue striping. For the playoffs, they switched to numbers above the sleeve striping and had a blue/white/blue V-neck collar – like the offered jersey, and the jerseys had no nameplates), the jersey was then worn during the Stanley Cup finals - with nameplate added, with these finals jerseys then worn again during the 1977-78 NHL regular season. The proper Wilson labeling is affixed to the collar with “48” sizing, with a “77” year swatch sewn to the inside hem. Featuring the classic Canadiens team crest in layered tackle twill, “5” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in white-over-blue twill, with “Lapointe” in white across the attached red nameplate. The jersey sports nice game-use with wear to the material, marks, material pulls and some faint staining on the right sleeve. There is also pilling to the interior and team repairs, with examples situated on the front (2), reverse (3), shoulders (1) and sleeves (2), with the nameplate slightly torn at each end. Lapointe had 12 points in 12 playoffs games in 1976-77, and concluded the 1977-78 regular-season with 42 points in 49 regular season games. The jersey is accompanied by a MeiGray Vintage certificate of registration.
