This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Known to modern hockey fans for his years as a broadcaster which included being honoured by the Hall of Fame in 2009 with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, John Davidson first enjoyed a decade backstopping the St Louis Blues and New York Rangers, with additional time in AHL creases. From his mid-career in the late-1970s with the Rangers, we have a team-signed stick used by Davidson with mounted puck from circa 1978-79. Likely signed at the 1978-79 Rangers' training camp, as the signatures include Don Awrey and Wayne Dillon (their final season for the Rangers was in 1977-78), along with coach Fred Shero, Ulf Nilsson and Frank Beaton (each started with the club in 1978-79). A CCM Custom Pro model with "Davidson" stamped to the upper shaft, the original white-now-darkened tape over the knob is intact, with tape added throughout the length of the blade and paddle for the signatures. Signers include Davidson, along with HOFers Esposito, Nilsson, and coach Shero, with the additional signers to include Hickey, Duguay, Greschner, Vickers, Vadnais, Marois, DeBlois, Maloney, Farrish, Johnstone, Fotiu, Polis, Beaton and Doug Soetaert (the names Eric, Robert and Dominique are also written to the reverse paddle). Arranged in a vertical row and displaying nicely with the majority easily legible, the stick has been varnished throughout, with the Rangers puck mounted at the top of the paddle (there was originally a second puck affixed at the toe of the blade that is now gone). Additional, the stick was formerly on display, mounted to the wall of a Montreal restaurant (there are two small holes drilled), with red paint on the shaft as the stick was left up upon the restaurant being repainted.
