Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
A member of the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame, representing his nation at the 1976 Canada Cup, Juhani Tamminen began his career with Helsinki in the early-1970s and spent two seasons in the WHA including with Cleveland (1975-76) and Phoenix (1976-77). We offer a Roadrunners jersey worn by the Turku native during his lone season with the club. A Rawlings label with “48” sizing is affixed to the collar, with no other labeling present. Featuring a gorgeous and highly detailed chain-stitched team crest, “23” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in tackle twill, with no nameplate over the upper reverse (there is evidence of a former nameplate, with the outline visible). The fight strap has also been cut away and removed. Exhibiting moderate game-use with marks to the team crest and a few small stains to the white striping bands, there are also a few team repairs visible, with examples on the lower front, reverse and each lower sleeve. Material pulls and burns to each lower sleeve are also present, with some minor pilling to the interior. Regarded as one of the most attractive of all WHA jerseys, these heavy weight durene specimens are always on the radar of advanced collectors.
