The most important piece of goaltending equipment innovation since the game of hockey was in its infancy is the development of the goalie mask, something that all those that play the position today have to thank the game’s pioneers for. Presented here is the very mask worn by Niagara Ice Dogs goalie, Stephen Dhillon, during the 2017-18 and beginning of the 2018-19 seasons of the Ontario Hockey League as well as at the 2018 NHL Rookie Showdown Prospects Tournament in Montreal. A Bauer made mask, it features a beautiful yet simplistic Ice Dogs design with team logos, paw prints, and bones present. Presenting exceptionally with great eye appeal, the mask, while worn and displaying such wear, is in great condition overall with only minor wear for the most part found on the outer painted shell. The white cage also remains in good condition with no major wear and only displaying puck marks. On the interior, all the padding is present and affixed with the only things of note being wear at the chin cup, the missing sweatband, and worn manufacture labels. The backplate as well remains in great condition with only light marks. Additionally, the mask has been photo-matched with Getty Images #1054762188 to the paint chips found on the crown of the mask above the “B” in Bauer and the chin area as well as to the puck mark on the crown of the mask on the left most pad of the paw print. A matching COA from the Ice Dogs will accompany the item.
As an added bonus, the lot also includes a matching Stephen Dhillon game-worn Niagara Ice Dogs jersey from the 2017-18 season. The black jersey made by CCM features the Ice Dogs crest on the front as well as patches for CCM and the OHL on each side of the upper chest. A “goalie style” size 58, the sleeves and verso of the jersey feature Dhillon’s number “30” in two layers of stacked red and while tackle twill with the Ice Dogs secondary logos being found on each shoulder. The right sleeve also features the Memorial Cup 100th Anniversary logo patch. Dhillon’s name is spelt out in white twill letters across the affixed name plate. The interior of the jersey features the Ice Dogs team tagging near the backside bottom hem. Game wear exhibited on the jersey includes many puck marks throughout, pilling at the cuff of both sleeves and the back of the collar, small board burns. Overall, two remarkable pieces ready to find a home in your collection!
