Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022

A fixture in big league hockey for over three decades as a player, coach and assistant manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Hap Day also served as the first captain of the franchise upon the christening of the “Maple Leafs” moniker, in 1927. Hoisting Lord Stanley’s coveted trophy an impressive seven times, Day was enshrined in the HOF in 1961. Originally presented to the legendary star, we have Day's personal 'The Trail of the Stanley Cup' three-volume matching-numbered leather-bound set. 'The Trail of the Stanley Cup' is a definite prerequisite to any important hockey library. Author Charles Coleman's complete history of hockey and Lord Stanley's trophy from 1893 to 1967 is contained within these three books. Only 1,000 copies of the special leather-bound editions of the first and second volumes were produced and presented to important hockey figures, while the third was limited to 1,500 copies. Each numbered "116", with a detached but present "Clarence Day" NHL bookplate within the first volume, the set also features the original slip cases, with just light overall handling wear present to all three volumes. While we have offered numerous volumes throughout the years, regarding the provenance, this set is without question one of the most important.
