Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

Hockey icon Frank "King" Clancy spent most of his hockey life in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization but it was in his hometown of Ottawa that he first starred as an NHL defenceman, scoring an impressive 14 goals for the Senators during a 30-game schedule the same season that this relic was found in a pack of Champ's Cigarettes. The write-up on the back mentions how Clancy had actually played every position since joining the club (1921-22 was his first big league campaign). One of the kingpins, along with Morenz and Vezina, of the 60-card Champ's set is Clancy, with this King receiving a mark of VG-EX 4 at PSA some years ago. Wear at the four corners is visible but no creases, while scuffing to the back of the PSA holder gives an appearance of minor paper loss on the card's reverse but that is not the case. Scratches/scuffs to the front of the holder are also noteworthy, as is the scarcity of such cards and Champ's cards in general; since its inception, PSA has only ever inspected and encapsulated 26 Clancy examples. Thus, a special opportunity for collectors of pre-war material.
