Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
An inviting batch of hockey cards from a special time in hockey history – Mr. Hockey playing pro hockey alongside two of his sons! - will provide multiple options and opportunities, with the famous card of Gordie, Mark and Marty Howe leading each of the five (66-card) sets, assembled back in the day not by a youngster but by a gentleman collector and thus exhibiting very little handling and wear. We spot but a single creased card (of J.C. Tremblay) throughout, with NM-or-better examples accounting for the majority and numerous NM-MT to MINT cards to zero-in on. A corner touch or two render some EX-MT and a small percentage EX or EX+, with the lowdown on “The Howes” somewhat challenging #1 card as follows: one makes it to NM-MT, with two at EX-MT, one at EX+ (diamond cut) and one at EX. Diamond cuts are observed on two of the Bobby Hull cards, but no noteworthy condition exceptions are among the star/key cards, with five unmarked checklists averaging NM appreciated contributors. A little set re-arranging may be in store as we notice four cards with a bit of bubble gum (not chewed!) stuck to the backs of four in one set and two in another, with of course centering that varies. Plante, Cheevers, Mahovlich and rookie cards of Hedberg, Nilsson, Nedomansky and Gratton….and the rest, will be fun to sift through. Bonuses are five folded wax pack wrappers - one for each set – cool.
