From the Los Angeles Kings opening night of the 2002-03 NHL season, on Oct 9th vs Phoenix, we have a Kings jersey that was issued for the contest for Jaroslav Bednar, but as he was scratched from the line-up, the jersey was never worn. Featuring a unique “99” patch with “Oct 9, 2002” date sewn to the right breast to honour The Great One, with the jersey matching the style worn by Gretzky from 1988 to 1996, one jersey per period was worn to celebrate the Kings’ official retirement of the legendary superstar. A label with “56” sizing is affixed to the collar, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests over the bottom hem. Styled with a tackle twill Kings team crest with embroidered detailing, the white V-neck has been accented with “27” sewn to the sleeves and verso in layered twill, with “Bednar” across the affixed nameplate in single black twill. As mentioned, the “99” crest resides over the right breast. A MeiGray patch numbered “A05444” graces the inside hem with a matching LOA to accompany, and according to the MeiGray population report, the jersey is a “White Gretzky “99” Retirement Game GI” specimen.
