Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

To both the delight of new American hockey viewers and the dismay of knowledgeable Canadian hockey fans, the NHL began using special pucks fitted with electronic sensors during the mid-1990s, with these “Fox Trax” examples seeing use during televised contests on Fox. Embedded with electronics and sensors, the Official Bettman-endorsed Inglasco 960 model with the National Hockey League logo appearing in the center of both sides would show a blue halo during TV broadcasts that would change to a red “comet tail” when shot by a player. Four sensors can be viewed on each side, with another 12 devices mounted around the outer edge of the puck. This desirable example was used during the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals between the Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers. Exhibiting surface wear to the graphics on both sides, the puck sports no damage, with just light use shown overall. The Avalanche would take the series four straight to claim the franchise’s first of two Stanley Cup championships in just six seasons.
