With the exception of eight games spent with the Tampa Bay Lightning at the conclusion of his career, Olaf Kolzig guarded the Washington Capitals crease for his entire 14 NHL seasons. Selected 19th overall in 1989, Kolzig first spent two seasons in the WHL with the Tri-City Americans before making his NHL debut for the Caps in 1989-90. A member of the WHL’s West Second All-Star Team his inaugural season with the club, Kolzig would be the first goaltender in league history to score a goal, and it was done with a model that matches the offered Kolzig gamer. A solid white Victoriaville Pro model with “Kolzig” stamped to the upper shaft, the original striping accent is intact, with the original black tape over the blade and white to the upper shaft with “35” handwritten. Showing good game-use with wear to the taped section of blade and chipping along the top edge of the paddle, there is also some age spotting to the paddle, with specks of red and blue paint transfer to the shaft. This YouTube video shows the game in which Kolzig scored, on Nov 29, 1989, with the same type of model stick used.
