Finally elected to the House of Commons in 1940 after numerous contested elections following his criminal defense law career and time serving in World War I, John Diefenbaker entered the office of the Prime Minister in 1957 as the only Progressive Conservative party leader for half a century, and left in 1963, becoming the Opposition Leader. We offer a group of Diefenbaker memorabilia that totals 12 and includes signed items. Included, we have an undated, handwritten note on House of Commons letterhead a typed and signed letter dated June 10, 1977 on House of Commons letterhead, an additional typed and signed letter dated May 3, 1974 on House of Commons letterhead, a note with additional text on House of Commons letterhead, a 3 ½” x 5” photo, a 1950s voting advertising card, a 1979 signed Christmas card, signed John and Olive Diefenbaker 1968 B’nai B’rith Luncheon card, signed 8” x 10” photo (with wife) and vintage card-stock photo with Queen Elizabeth.
