NHL players finally got their chance to represent their respective countries on the Olympic stage when National Hockey League professionals were deemed eligible for the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan when a deal was reached between the International Olympic Committee, IIHF, NHL, and NHLPA. Featuring names like Gretzky, Brodeur, Yzerman, Lindros, and Bourque, the Team Canada lineup was impressive to say the least. Presented here is the red-coloured jersey style that Wayne Gretzky would wear in his only appearance at the Winter Olympics in 1998. Made by Bauer, the company’s Bauer pro labeling with size 52 designation is found affixed to the collar as well as the original retail tags. A Bauer logo patch is featured on the reverse neckline. Featuring the patriotic Team Canada crest on the chest, the reverse and sleeve’s feature “99” sewn in layered tackle twill with “Gretzky” layered across the affixed nameplate in single layer white twill. Wayne has graciously signed the first reverse “9” in thin blue marker which pops off the white background and is displayed with light bleeding. As is the case with anything regarding the “Great One” this piece is sure to become a staple in your collection.
