Combining for a total of 940 National Hockey League wins over their respective careers while adding a cumulative total of 6 Stanley Cups and 9 Vezina Trophies, it is easy to see that Patrick Roy and Dominik Hasek are two of the best to ever stand guard in an NHL crease. Presented here are game-issued signed sticks from the pair of legendary keepers with the Roy dating to his days with the Colorado Avalanche and the Hasek to his time with the Buffalo Sabres.
The Roy stick is a 500 series model of stick that was commonly used by Roy in the late-1990’s while playing with the Colorado Avalanche. Dated on the back of the shaft with the factory date stamp reading “Dec 01, 2000” signifies that this stick was manufactured for Roy to use during the 2000-01 season, a campaign that would see Roy finish with a total of 40 wins in 62 games played. Having never been taped and remaining in near new condition with little wear except on the bottom of the blade in the form of ground contact and a small chip in the shaft near where it has been stamped “P. Roy” the stick remains in great condition. The blade has been signed by Roy in black marker and displays incredibly well with no flaws whatsoever.
Next, the Hasek stick hails from the late-1990’s while the Dominator was backstopping the Sabres to multiple playoffs runs. Made by Bauer, this Reactor R5000 model matches up to what Hasek used in the 1999 Stanley Cup Playoffs that saw them go all the way to the Cup Finals against the Dallas Stars. Having never been taped like the previous Roy example, this piece of lumber that has been produced for Hasek has been stamped as such on the upper shaft and displays prominently. The paddle has been signed by the Czech legend in bold black marker which displays with excellent eye appeal. The wear on the stick remains light with light examples of such on the blade near the toe, the upper shaft, and the hand grip where the shaft and paddle meet.
Additionally, included with the two sticks are two media guides hailing from the 2002 and 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Fully complete and intact, the 2002 example showcases the previously mentioned Hasek on the front and has been signed in black marker, displaying well with the back cover being signed by 6 additional players including Joe Sakic, Jaromir Jagr, Teemu Selanne, Sergei Fedorov, Mats Sundin, and Brian Leetch. The 2006 book features Martin Brodeur on the cover and is signed as well in black marker, once again, displaying well.
