Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/1/2022
Perhaps the greatest stickhandler that the National Hockey League has seen in the last 50 years, “The Magic Man” as he is affectionately known, mesmerized the league throughout the entirety of his NHL career that culminated in two Stanley Cup Championships and nearly point-per-game numbers with 918 points in 953 games. Presented here, from the hands of Datsyuk himself is a signed game-used stick dating to the 2013 season. The blacked-out Reebok Ribcore III twig featured familiar tape patterns as found on other Datsyuk sticks with red cloth on the handle and black present on the blade. Commonly found on this model of stick used by the Russian legend, Datsyuk has blacked out the stick in areas from top to bottom, especially down near the heel. A hand written number 13 is found on the red cloth tape present on the handle with factory graphics of “Ghost” being found just below that, differing from Datsyuk’s usual identifier of “Pasha”. Signed on the heel in crisp silver marker and presenting incredibly well, the game wear on this example is moderate with most of it being found in the form of puck marks on the blade tape as well as some scratches and nicks on the lower shaft/heel area. Remaining complete with no brakes or cracks present, the stick is part of a large collection of sticks featured in this auction with our consignor informing us that he obtained most of them from various NHL All-Star Games over the years with four such examples from the collection having been photo-matched to All-Star Games.
