The O-Pee-Chee Company’s first hockey card set is represented here and features low grade components, with however a marvelous star and rookie card lineup carrying appeal. The set’s key card pictures Howie Morenz, hockey’s most outstanding player of the first half of the 20th century, and recently received an appropriate VG 3 assessment at PSA. Displaying almost similarly but lowered to FR 1.5 by a diagonal crease is Eddie Shore’s rookie card, one of 43 cards considered RCs. One other encapsulated contributor is 29-Normie Himes RC at VG-EX 4, while standing out among the raw rest is Charlie Conacher’s important RC, in VG condition with a bit of soiling on the lower front. It, like most of the others, has evidence (indentations) of once having been inserted into an OPC album back in the day, sometimes resulting in a diagonal back crease or two in the corner regions. We count 14 cards that are downright POOR, (including Stewart, Horner, Hainsworth, Primeau, Jackson, Worters and Johnson RCs), while most others are either F or G, with King Clancy (F) and rookie cards of Clapper, Bailey, Howe and Weiland among them. We spot eight cards (mostly commons) that exhibit trimming, with 1-Cox noteworthy, and then six among the eight duplicates. A swell array of colors and numerous hockey legends will be coming your way after you’re the higher bidder here – you’ll get to cross off a pre-war set from your list...in one swoop.
