Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
This 6 piece lot features the photographs of 3 Hall of Famers, a future Hall of Famer, and a great shot of one of the best rivalries in all of hockey. Included, first we offer two framed Mats Sundin photographs. The longtime Leafs captain and legend has personally signed one print in blue marker. This print is displayed inside a handsome 17" x 21" black frame with an image of the Air Canada Centre imposed under the photo. The glass within the frame is loose. A Frameworth LOA accompanies this piece. The other photograph includes a facsimile autograph and is misidentified in the Frameworth issued LOA as personally signed. It is held in a 18 1/2" x 22 1/2" black frame above four cards from Sundin's days with Toronto. We next offer a signed Mark Messier framed print. Moose played in the NHL for 25 years and won 6 Stanley Cups in that span. In addition to his NHL exploits, Messier represented Canada on the world stage 5 times including at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. He is pictured here in his Team Canada garb likely chasing down a puck against Team USA. The autograph is in black marker and appears to be slightly smudged. The print is held in a black-bordered 15" x 18" frame with white felt inside. A small gold plaque identifies Messier as well as stating that it was autographed in 1996. An LOA will be included.Tony Esposito tended goal in the NHL for 16 seasons. In that time he established himself as an NHL legend and earned a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame. We present a signed Esposito print held inside a 14" x 18" black frame. The autograph was done in black marker and appears to be slightly faded either due to age or marker quality. Within the frame is a Chicago Blackhawks pin. An LOA will accompany the piece. Next up comes a signed framed photo from a current NHL great and almost lock for the Hall of Fame. Henrik Lundqvist has shone on Broadway for the Rangers for over 10 years, picking up a Vezina Trophy along the way. Retiring in mid-2021, Lundqvist leaves behind a legacy in New York that will be hard to match. We offer a signed photo from the legend framed alongside six cards from his career. The photo is signed in blue marker and the signature is in excellent condition. The 18 1/2" x 22 1/2" frame is black and appears to have been scratched in places with a previous owner using a black marker to cover over them. Two NHL hologram stickers are affixed to the photo and an LOA is included. To round out this lot, we offer a signed photo from the Battle of Alberta, one of hockey's most contentious rivalries. This photo likely dates to the mid-2000s and features the autographs of Sam Gagner from the Oilers and Mikka Kiprusoff from the Flames. Both autographs are in blue marker and are in good condition. The large 25" x 29" frame is all black and in good condition. An NHL hologram sticker and a Pro Am Sports hologram sticker are affixed to the photo. An LOA will be included. We should also note some wear to the frames.
