Exhibiting the scoring prowess early that would account for his 989 NHL points, netting a-point-a-game throughout his Hall of Fame career, Paul Kariya was drafted 4th overall in 1993 after a 39-game, 100-point season in the NCAA with Maine. Scoring an impressive 108 points in just his second NHL season of 1995-96, we offer photo-matched skates used by the North Vancouver native during his rookie campaign, in 1994-95. Bauer Supreme models with Tuuk Plus blade holders and Tuuk stainless steel blades, “9” is handwritten in marker to each underside boot, with the Bauer identifiers over the outside sections and reverse blacked-out (we have photo-matched the skates both before and after the black colour was added). There is also reinforcing stitching that has been added to both sides of the boots, with the skates showing heavy game-use, with considerable wear to the material in areas along with cuts over the toe sections. There are also marks covering the blade holders, with the blades showing good use with no rusting. Getty Images #72281757 (April 17, 1995 – the black colour is not added yet) and #72568901 (May 1, 1995 – the black colour has been added) have both been matched to a number of marks on the blade holders, while the image on the back of Kariya’s 1995-96 Topps #7 card has been matched to marks on the interior portion of the blade holder of the right skate. Additionally, Getty Image #1160415460 (April 19, 1995) appears to the show the matching marks on the right blade holder, but the image is not in high enough resolution to be called a definitive photo-match. A letter will accompany.
