Obtained directly from the family of Julius “Pete” Leichnitz, we have a pair of presented certificates with a 1998 induction certificate from the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame for Pete’s role with the 1948 Olympic gold medal winning RCAF Flyers, along with an induction certificate from the Canadian Forces Sports Hall of Fame where Pete has been named a “Leading Aircraftsman”. Dated October 21st 1998, the Ottawa certificate is approx. 8” x 9 ½” and matted and framed to total dimensions of roughly 14 ¼” x 16 ¾”. The Canadian Forces certificate is roughly 11” x 14”, and it’s accompanied by a cover letter addressed to Pete on National Defence letterhead, signed by Lieutenant-General, Assistant Deputy Minister J.W. Quinn. An LOA from the Leichnitz family will be included. The CFSHOF certificate exhibits just regular handling wear with toning, and it will come with the cover letter in the original tube it was first sent in, postmarked “11 77”. Also included in this lot we have pair of 50th anniversary envelopes issued by Canada Post commemorating the Flyers gold medal, with one featuring Canadian postage cancelled in Ottawa, while the second has postage from games host Switzerland, cancelled in St. Moritz. A cover letter addressed to Mr. Leichnitz dated 1998 from Canada Post will also be included along with a duplicate envelope cancelled in Ottawa. There’s also an “Airforce” magazine from 1998 celebrating the Flyers win, and six Pepsi cans that feature images of the 1948 RCAF Flyer’s jerseys.
