After almost of a decade of wowing fans in Montreal and elsewhere, Maurice Richard was well established as hockey’s premier goal scorer when he finally got to appear on his official rookie card, with one of the hobby's most coveted RCs starring in Parkhurst's landmark inaugural hockey issue and offered here in encapsulated form. Mentioned on the front are the Rocket's 42 goals from the previous season, (one shy of league leader Gordie Howe’s 43), after which he and the Canadiens upset league champion Detroit in six games in the first round of the playoffs despite finishing a whopping 36 points behind the Red Wings – ah, the playoffs, when anything can happen. The ensuing final was another example, with all five games decided in overtime and ultimately ended by Bill Barilko. The Rocket led all playoff scorers that spring with nine goals in 11 games, his 13 points also being tops. With a problem-free back, the offered example displays wear and slight rounding at the corners, with a diagonal crease descending from the middle of the top edge to the middle of the left edge, while a small light crease is near the top left corner. Graded GOOD+ 2.5 and in a scratch-free PSA holder, the thought-provoking depiction of a peoples’ hero and a hockey icon is ready to heighten the level of importance of your important Richard/RC collection.
