Beginning his professional career during the final season of the WHA with Birmingham, Gaston Gingras was selected by his home province Montreal Canadiens at the 1979 draft, and made his debut for the Bleu, Blanc et Rouge in 1979-80. The perfect companion piece to the photo-matched Steve Shutt jersey also worn by Gingras during his rookie season available in this auction, we have a Habs jersey donned by the Temiscaming native in 1979-80. Worn by Gingras later in the season, a Maska label is affixed to the collar, with the vintage sweater measuring-out to roughly a size 50. Styled with the iconic Habs CH team crest fully administered in layered tackle twill, “2” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, with evidence visible of a former nameplate. There is also dual heat-pressed blue Maska logos present on the front and reverse hem, with the garter-style fight strap intact. Showing heavy game-use with wear to the material throughout including considerable red paint transfer to the sleeves, the jersey is slightly discoloured to a very light pink, likely from repeated washings, with puckering to the team crest and reverse number. Team repairs are also visible, with examples situated over the front (7), reverse (2) and sleeves (17).
