Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
One of just four teams to officially start the first season in the WHA, playing the opening games on October 11, 1972, the Ottawa Nationals only witnessed a single season of rebel hockey before moving to Toronto due to financial difficulties. Exceedingly rare and some of the most contested rubber in the hobby, pucks used in WHA games rarely surface – especially specimens from the genesis of the league during the first season, and we are pleased to offer just that with a puck used in the March 29, 1973 Nationals victory vs the New England Whalers. A blue Biltrite model with screened WHA logo, “Made in Canada” appears in raised text on the reverse, with just a bit of wear to the logo present along with some minor spotting. A letter from our consignor detailing the acquisition of the puck at the March 29th contest will be included, and we should note that he lightly scratched his initials into the WHA logo in two spots. Despite this, the puck displays beautifully and is ready for your WHA or game-used shrine.
