Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
An elegant feature reminiscent of the past era where design aesthetics heavily outweighed basic function, curled-tip skate blades are evocative of the 19th century, with the desirable trait featured in this group of 4 pairs of antique skates. Included, the first pair feature large upturned blades with semi circle terminations and finished wooden bases, with “OF” stamped into each base (possibly a blacksmith’s initials/maker’s mark), with no remaining strapping and good wear to both the bases and blades. The second pair were most likely produced for touring and are possibly of Swedish origin, with well-designed high-quality finished bases and inlaid brass accents with slightly-curling blade tips. The attractive pair also feature most of the original strapping and just light use shown. The third pair sport curled-tip blades and finished wooden bases with the maker stamped into the underside of each base (illegible), with strapping remaining and nice heavy use shown. The final pair of desirable 19th century skates are likely American and feature large arching blades with slight semi circle terminations, with dark finished bases. The pair show good use to the bases and blades, with just a bit of front strapping remaining on each. Please note that each antique skate lot in our current auction hails from an advanced 19th century skate collection.
