Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
Included with Paulin's "Premium Hockey Bar" and featuring players who toiled in western Canada were little black and white cards like the four offered here. Although they've always been catalogued as a 1923-24 issue, extensive research by hobby veteran and author Bobby Burrell actually points to a two-year promotion beginning a year later, thus giving a 1924-26 time frame for the cards. With a few light creases and best condition-wise at G are #s 49-Spunk Sparrow and 67-Cully Wilson, while 68-Charlie Reid (F) and 29-Amby Moran (P, with multiple heavier creases) are lower. Meanwhile, Hall of Fame defenceman Mervin "Red" Dutton, who starred out west with Calgary before his NHL days, is featured on two 1930s matchbook covers put out by New York's Diamond Match Company. Both are "Type 1" examples and in nice collectible problem-free condition. Completing are matchbook covers of Chicago Black Hawks Mike Karakas and Andy Blair, with their strikers no longer present.
