Winning championships throughout his time in Russia with the famous CSKA Moscow squad, Igor Larionov also represented the powerful and dominating Soviets internationally, with a trio of Stanley Cup championships won with Detroit from 1997 to 2002. Hailing from the Stanley Cup-winning season of 1997-98, we have signed gloves worn by the Professor. Louisville TPS models in Red Wings colours with “Larionov” embroidered to each wrist extension, the gloves exhibit heavy game-use, with marks and considerable rubbing to the leather in areas, with each palm completely darkened. There are sticky areas on the left glove, with what appears to be red ink or marker added over heavily rubbed areas, possibly by a trainer, to disguise some of the heavy wear present. Larionov has signed the wrist guard on the left glove in black marker, adding “Stanley Cup 1997”. We should note that Getty Images confirm that similar models were worn throughout the 1997 Stanley Cup playoffs, but those specimens had no text over the thumbs, while Getty Images from the 1998 Stanley Cup playoffs show models that match exactly with the offered examples, including the text over the thumbs. Larionov may have just added the incorrect year, with the signature possibly added sometime after.
