Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
The progeny of original innovators, following in the footsteps of Clint Benedict and Jacques Plante, Doug Favell may not have been the first goaltender to don a mask during NHL action, but he was the very first to feature an intricate, painted design. This Toronto Maple Leafs replica mask of the famous specimen worn by Favell has been signed by eight noteworthy Leafs. Sporting good weight with no strapping or interior padding along with the large maple leaf matching the paint scheme used by Favell with the club during the early-1970s, all eight have signed in thin blue ink, including deceased HOFers Red Kelly and Johnny Bower, along with Ron Ellis, Larry Hillman, Jim Pappin, Bobby Baun, Ed Shack and Larry Jeffery. The signatures present beautifully, with no issues for the mask.
