Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Not the usually or expected fans for a Detroit hockey match during the Original Six era, 600 cheering inmates witnessed the Red Wings battle the Marquette Prison hockey team on Feb 2, 1954. Playing on the newly-constructed outdoor prison rink in just 21 degrees, the match was memorable for all involved, with Ted Lindsay reminiscing "It was a wonderful experience, but I didn't want to get any of those guys mad at me". We offer a group of modern photos from the event signed by Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay (4), plus photocopies of the 2004 newspaper article for the 50th anniversary signed by the pair as well. All signed in blue sharpie, the photos include a face-off showing Howe and Lindsay (2, one 11" x 14", the other 16" x 20"), the Red Wings warming up (16" x 20"), and Jack Adams with the "Honey Bucket Trophy" (16" x 20"). The newspaper article photocopies are 11" x 14".
