Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
Classic Parkhurst cards issued during the 1954-55 season are offered up here and recall how the Red Wings for the second straight year edged the Canadiens in seven games for the Stanley Cup, the Habs in the spring of ’55 without (the suspended) Rocket Richard. And now to the cardboard, with Johnny Bower’s important rookie card encased in a PSA holder labeled VG-EX 4. A little staining in one of the top corner regions is visible, while the lowdown on the raw rest goes like this: Refreshingly, most of the star/key cards are similar or superior to the Bower RC, with biggies Howe (EX), Richard (VG-EX+), Beliveau (VG-EX) and Sawchuk (VG-EX) among them, while Horton (two light creases) and 1-McNeil are a little behind at VG. A Fred Sasakamoose rookie (VG-EX+) and 100-Sawchuk Stops Boom Boom (VG+) are noteworthy, with a duplicate of the last card (G+) highlighting 14 extras. Intermittent creases are observed in the set, but it’s mostly varying degrees of corner wear that are the grade-lowering factors, with mostly VG to EX examples to be anticipated and some better/worse. Eight have Lucky Premium Card backs, with three more among the duplicates, meaning that both variations of those are present. Writing on the backs of two commons is also to mention, with a few cards appearing markedly short, including 99-Plante/Kennedy. For those of you not requiring high grade but who are not all that fond of creases, this batch should satisfy. *Other than the aforementioned last card, the duplicates are #s 11, 15, 26, 28, 39 (2), 44, 48, 53, 56, 67, 85 and 86.
