Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

With near-perfect centering and in alluring near-perfect condition is this example of Mario Lemieux’s significant 1985-86 O-Pee-Chee rookie card, the likes of which were first pulled from (35-cent, 7-card) wax packs during the budding superstar’s second big league season. Escalating (more than doubling) in value in the hobby’s most consulted price guide in recent times to reach the four-figure mark, card #9 tells on the back of Mario’s first NHL goal on his very first shift, with this example achieving PSA’s mark of NM-MT+ 8.5. White specks, detected on the back at the four corners, are the factors denying a higher grade. Even with Wayne Gretzky’s dominant wizardry, Mario was not to be denied a few scoring championships himself, copping his first (of six) just a couple of seasons later. Worthy of a big-time Mario/RC stash is this appealing specimen, with a couple of extremely subtle small light scratches to the front of the PSA holder observed. Was Mario fun to observe, or what?!
