Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

Cards and wrappers and display boxes here have been hoarded away for over 40 years, are hitting the market for the first time and overall exhibit light handling/wear. Well, the cards anyways, with Ozzie Smith’s important O-Pee-Chee rookie card headlining a 374-card set from 1979 and sent to EX, or EX+ at best, by a top right corner ding. Expect EX and mostly EX-MT to NM cards throughout the stash, with superior examples and the odd intermittent crease also present. The star power is led by Nolan Ryan, Pete Rose, George Brett, Mike Schmidt, Reggie Jackson, Eddie Murray, Robin Yount, Bench, Seaver, Yaz, Winfield and other Hall of Famers. The ’80 and ’81 sets are also 374-card efforts, with the latter somewhat sharper (edges tend to be smoother) than the two earlier issues. Nifty bonuses are stacks of wrappers; some five dozen from ’79, (32) from ’80 and three dozen ‘81s. The display boxes, like the wrappers, inform of how packs increased from 15 to 20 to 25 cents over the period. Boxes were torn apart at the four corners to be flattened but that’s better than having them thrown in the garbage. A member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, longtime Astro Terry Puhl is featured on an ’80 box, with two each from the other seasons contributing. Duplicates include over 700 from ’80 and 600+ from ’81 and are not quite as nice as the sets, with some intermittent edge/back toning observed. There are limited stars/HOFers and no real big names. Big perusing sessions are in store when these goodies arrive.
