Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
A World Hockey Association card bonanza is offered here with the cards exhibiting very little handling and wear, likely opened, collated and tucked away for decades. There are two complete 66-card sets from 1974-75, with “The Howes” leading and complemented by Bobby Hull, Jacques Plante, Gerry Cheevers, Frank Mahovlich and numerous (30) rookie cards, notably those picturing Anders Hedberg, Ulf Nilsson, Vaclav Nedomansky and Real Cloutier. EX+ to NM cards come around the most often, with some a tad higher/lower. One checklist is unmarked while the other is. A third group of ’74-75s (57/66) has the #1-The Howes card present but none of the other key cards. Stains or actual bubble gum remnants on the backs of a dozen cards suggests they may have been pulled from packs some time after the actual ’74-75 season. A little sharper (NM average) are stacks from ’77-78; one complete set and two near sets (62/66 and 57/66). Again, the #1 (Gordie Howe) card is present in all three but just one checklist is to report, with Hull contributing to one partial set but not the other. The pleasing centering in two of the piles, along with original gloss throughout are appreciated attributes. Also appreciated are the wrapper bonuses; six of seven ’74-75s (featuring a Tony Esposito-like image) are without tears, as are two ’77-78 entries. A rather pronounced curvature of cards in two groups of ’77-78s is also to note. Lots of possibilities and opportunities are up for grabs.
